London Assembly members approved a motion denouncing six Green‑led boroughs for declining to help Home Office immigration raids. The councils, Lewisham, Hackney, Haringey, Lambeth, Southwark and Waltham Forest, have all adopted a non‑cooperation stance. The Home Office says arrests for illegal work rose 83% and raids grew 77% over the past year and a half.
Hackney Council opened the east‑bank path around the West Reservoir on 9 September after summer works. A solid fence and turnstile restrict the café view and beach to paying swimmers, sparking complaints from residents, a Green councillor and the New River Renewal Campaign.
At a fundraising dinner David Lammy told supporters his Tottenham majority could fall to roughly 1,000 votes. He won the July 2024 election by 15,434 votes, 57.5% of the total, while a Savanta poll suggests Labour could lose 18 London seats at the next general election, though Lammy is expected to hold his.
Liam Shrivastava, Lewisham's first directly-elected Green Mayor, has passed his 100-day milestone. His administration has initiated a review into cooperation with immigration enforcement and reported clearing over 11,000 fly-tipping sites since May 2026.
Southwark Council’s new Green leader, James McAsh, has announced plans to make driving more difficult in the borough. The measures include blocking rat runs and expanding low-traffic neighbourhoods to improve air quality and road safety for children.
