Mayor of London Sadiq Khan faces calls to condemn the visit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, whose organisation critics link to violence against religious minorities in India. Campaigners want security increased and the Home Office to assess whether Bhagwat should be banned.
Sadiq Khan was convicted in his absence at Herefordshire Magistrates’ Court on 18 August for failing to tax a 2002 Nissan Micra. The court fined him £340.84, but City Hall states the car does not belong to the Mayor or TfL. The DVLA sent notices to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant instead of TfL’s offices.
Barnet Labour has called on Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch to drop Joshua Bonehill-Paine as an adviser after his selection as a council candidate in Somerset. Barnet Tories refused to condemn the decision, citing rehabilitation. Bonehill-Paine was jailed for antisemitic offences, including plans to burn the Talmud in Golders Green.

A poll of 2,021 Londoners suggests the Conservative Party’s next mayoral candidate should avoid ties to the previous government. Former Home Secretary James Cleverly’s potential bid faces scepticism, while business and policing experience are favoured traits. The 2028 election is still four years away.
