Centenary of London's first three-colour traffic lights

The UK's first three-colour traffic lights were introduced in London on 3 August 1926. The trial, located at several Piccadilly junctions, was designed to automate traffic control and reduce the annual expenditure required for police officers stationed at busy intersections.
