TfL escalators past lifespan force repairs and station closures

Transport for London spent £1.3 million on reactive escalator repairs in 2025/26 after 153 of 566 Underground escalators passed their expected lifespan. Southgate Station closed for two months this year when one escalator failed, and availability remains at 95%.
