Barnet Council’s December 2025 rejection of 283 flats at High Barnet Underground Station may now be harder to defend under new planning rules. Housing Secretary Angela Rayner’s policy requires councils to approve developments within a 10-minute walk of transport hubs unless strong evidence justifies refusal. The scheme was later approved by City Hall after a mayoral call-in.
Housing secretary Angela Rayner has approved a £500m redevelopment of the Truman Brewery estate in Brick Lane, including a datacentre, offices and 44 homes. Tower Hamlets Council and local campaigners had opposed the scheme, arguing it should prioritise housing instead.
Marks & Spencer has completed a £700 million investment plan, beginning with the Pantheon store on Oxford Street. The 10-storey rebuild, approved after legal challenges, includes offices and a gym. Food sales rose 16% in the latest quarter, but profits fell to £671 million last year.
