Hackney sixth-formers secure Oxbridge places and record grades in 2026 results

Hackney sixth-formers received their A-level, T-level and BTEC results on 13 August 2026, with three students from Mossbourne Sixth Form securing places at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Schools across the borough reported provisional results that suggested performance above national averages, though Hackney Council said the figures remain unverified until later in the summer.

Mossbourne Sixth Form Hackney announced that three of its students will attend Oxford or Cambridge this autumn. Ishaana Cannell achieved three A*s and will study medicine at Oxford. Shania Chin, also with three A*s, will read history at Cambridge. Felix Dally, the first Mossbourne student to secure a veterinary medicine place at Cambridge, achieved A*A*A.

The school said 25% of all A-levels taken were awarded an A*, with 57% at A* or A and 83% at B or above. Obinna Okoro, who achieved three A*s, will study computer science at the University of Warwick. Kaydon Addai has begun a degree apprenticeship in business administration at Rokos Capital Management, run in partnership with the University of Exeter.

Hackney Council lists 25 planning applications

Applications include home extensions, shopfront changes and listed building works across the borough.

City of London Academy Shoreditch Park reported its best results yet, with several students achieving straight A*s. Sofia and Zofia, who studied geography together, will attend the University of Bristol and Durham University respectively. Zofia said she was excited to leave London and explore a new city, adding that she had no fixed plans beyond her degree.

At Cardinal Pole Catholic School in Homerton, 83% of students secured at least a grade C, and nearly half achieved a B or above. The school said progress in chemistry, history, maths, further maths and philosophy placed it in the top 25% of schools nationally. Every student taking maths achieved at least a C.

On vocational courses, 96% of Cardinal Pole students achieved at least MMM, with nearly half earning the top grades of DDD or above. Sarah achieved D*D*D* in health and social care, while Viktoria secured A*AB in maths, further maths and physics.

This is just a stepping stone for them and for their careers, but it’s nice to see them happy with their outcomes and where they are going to go next.

Next steps beyond university

Not all students plan to attend university immediately. At Excelsior Academy in Shacklewell, Kulthum has chosen a gap year and hopes to find work, possibly in a nursery. She said she felt more confident about the decision after receiving her results.

Two students at All Saints Catholic High School in Stamford Hill, Trinnaye and Sherlomi, achieved the grades needed to train as midwives. Sherlomi will attend the University of Nottingham, while Trinnaye said her hard work had paid off. Laila, also from All Saints, will study children’s nursing at King’s College London.

Hackney Council’s cabinet member for children, young people and early intervention, Cllr Soraya Adejare, and deputy cabinet member for SEND support, Cllr Laura-Louise Fairley, issued a joint statement. They said a student’s future is defined by their potential and passions, whether their next step is further study, training, an apprenticeship or work.
