Stratford bike thief jailed after victim spots stolen e-bike online

A 23-year-old man from Lewisham has been jailed for nearly four years after robbing a teenager of an e-bike and e-scooter at Stratford Overground station. Jay Archibald was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on 12 September 2024 to three years and nine months in prison for the robbery, which took place on 28 June.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was waiting on the platform when Archibald approached him. According to court evidence reported by the *Evening Standard*, Archibald grabbed the handlebars of the e-bike, asked about its voltage, and then demanded the victim hand it over. He threatened to harm the boy if he resisted or reported the crime.

Archibald took both the £1,500 e-bike and a £700 e-scooter before leaving on a Jubilee Line train. The victim later identified him after a friend spotted the stolen bike advertised on social media on 2 July. The victim recognised Archibald from images posted on the account selling the bike.

British Transport Police arrested Archibald following the victim’s report. Detective Constable Olesia Berdova, who led the investigation, said the incident had a 'massive impact' on the victim’s sense of safety while using public transport. She told the *Evening Standard* that Archibald had targeted the teenager believing he would be an easy victim.
