Four traffickers jailed for 23 years after exploitation of 24 Thai women

Four people linked to a sex‑trafficking network were sentenced on Friday at Woolwich Crown Court. The combined term totals 23 years, with Achareeya Spurr receiving seven years and eight months, Chin Ping six years and nine months, Sarunyoo Siriwan four years and four months, and Ugur Sahin four years. All four were also served with Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Orders, the court said.

The Modern Slavery and Child Exploitation Team of the Metropolitan Police launched the enquiry in 2025 after welfare checks at several brothels. Detectives traced the operation to 26 premises across London and Kent, including two owned by a defendant. The team recovered £57,145 in cash, a cash‑counting machine, designer watches, handbags, mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards and the passports of three victims, as reported by the Standard.

Victims, all Thai nationals, arrived in the United Kingdom during 2025, some on legitimate visitor visas. Once in the country, they were taken to brothels where they were compelled to provide sexual services to settle debts that detectives described as running into tens of thousands of pounds. Several women reported that their passports were confiscated by a woman known as “Freya” or “Freya Ice Queen”, leaving them unable to leave the premises.

The court’s judgment reflects the seriousness of modern slavery offences. In addition to imprisonment, the Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Orders restrict the defendants’ movements and prohibit contact with any identified victims. Debi Lloyd, Head of UK Counter‑Trafficking Operations, said the convictions demonstrate the impact of coordinated law‑enforcement action and specialist victim support, the Standard quoted. She added that while court rulings cannot erase the trauma experienced, they send a clear message that exploitation will be pursued aggressively.
