Celebrating Victory in Europe Day (VE) in Kensington and Chelsea

Kensington and Chelsea Council are supporting events around the borough to help celebrate the 80th anniversary since Victory in Europe Day (VE) on Thursday 8 May.

The Council is offering a chance to apply for grants up to £500 for community events and no fees for road closures and parking suspensions to help organise street parties across the borough. 

How to apply for a grant

This year we have simplified the application process making it easier and faster to apply for the grant. If you are a charity, community interest company, residents’ association, faith group, or other voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisation, you can request a VE Day application form by emailing [email protected]. 

Eligibility criteria

To qualify, the event must be in the borough, focused on celebrating our veterans, and take place between Friday 2 May and Monday 12 May 2025. Find out more about the applications process for the City Living, Local Life grant on the Council’s website. 

Street party guidance

We’re also making it easy for you to hold a street party celebration with a dedicated VE 80th street party guidance and road closure application form on the Council’s website to support your safe and successful event. The deadline for street party applications is Friday 11 April 2025 at 12 noon. 

Cllr Sarah Addenbrooke, Lead Member for communities and community safety said: 

“On the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we honour and remember the resilience and sacrifice of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. 

 

“We’re making it easy for communities to hold street parties in the borough with help from our events team and small grants. I would encourage everyone to take the chance to come together as a community to celebrate and mark this historic occasion.”
