Brighouse, West Yorkshire – A tragic end as missing student Logan Slater found dead; police refer case for independent review

A 14-year-old student from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, has been found dead after disappearing on his way to school earlier this week. Logan Slater, a Brighouse High School student, left his home around 7:45 a.m. on Monday but never arrived at school. His body was discovered on land near Beechwood Park in Brighouse on Tuesday, marking a heartbreaking conclusion to the search for the teenager.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that they have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), an independent body overseeing complaints and conduct involving law enforcement, to ensure transparency in their handling of Logan's case.

Richard Horsfield, the headteacher at Brighouse High School, expressed his condolences, describing Logan as a “valued member of the school community” who was well-liked and had a wide circle of friends. "Our thoughts are with Logan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time," he said, emphasizing the loss felt across the school community.

The circumstances surrounding Logan’s disappearance and subsequent death have not yet been publicly detailed, but the IOPC’s involvement suggests a thorough review of police actions will follow.
